Bits: BA sale extended, special Emyr benefits at Conrad / Waldorf Astoria / LXR, more Qatar Airways Asia deals

News in brief:

The British Airways sale is extended

The current British Airways sale, which was due to end on 24th September, has been extended to 1st October.

Here is our original article on the sale highlighting some of the deals available.  The sale page of the BA website is here.

Remember that you will also earn double Avios on your next 10 British Airways flights via the new BA promotionfull details are here and you can register here.

The Biltmore Mayfair

New ‘Emyr’ benefits at Conrad, Waldorf Astoria and LXR hotels

We ran an article on Thursday about the Mayfair launch of The Biltmore, Hilton’s new luxury London hotel and the first in Europe to operate under the new LXR brand.

Our hotel booking partner, Emyr Thomas, dropped me a note to say that LXR is now included as part of Hilton’s Impresario scheme offered to luxury travel agents.  These benefits also apply to all Conrad and Waldorf Astoria hotels.  When booking via Emyr, you receive:

complimentary breakfast for two people

$100 hotel credit per stay

one category upgrade, subject to availability (does not double-up if you already get an upgrade due to Hilton Honors status)

double Hilton Honors base points

You need to pay Best Available Rate to get these benefits.  If a non-refundable Advanced Purchase rate would also work for you, you should run the maths to see whether Best Available Rate is actually cheaper when you factor in the extra goodies.  For a short stay, it may well be given the $100 hotel credit.

You can contact Emyr for a quote for any luxury hotel stay you are planning via the online form on this page of HFP.  Remember that he can get very similar deals for Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, The Ritz Carlton etc etc.

Qatar Airways Scandinavia deals

New Qatar Airways sale deals from Scandinavia

Rhys wrote a long article last weekend about the Qatar Airways sale deals available out of Europe, along with a handy guide to the different seat types, links to our reviews and a guide to how you earn British Airways Executive Club tier points with Qatar Airways.

Whilst the sale is officially over, Business Class deals from Stockholm and Gothenburg to Asia have been extended to 30th September.

Whilst you should expect to find Christmas and Easter blocked, these fares should be available over the rest of the booking window.  Deals I priced up yesterday for 5th to 12th November, except for Manila which is for a week in January, included:

Phuket – 15,679 SEK (£1,297)

Bangkok – 15,835 SEK (£1,303)

Manila – 16,568 SEK (£1,363)

Ho Chi Minh City – 17,223 SEK (£1,416)

Other routes may be available – it is worth having a play about on the Qatar Airways site.

All of these routes earn 560 BA tier points which is 90% of an Executive Club Silver card.

You need to stay for five days to get these fares.  A FREE Doha stopover is available if you want to break your journey – this can be booked online via the Qatar Airways website as part of the booking process.

You can find out more about Business Class on the A380 / Boeing 787 here and the Qsuite on the A350 and refurbished Boeing 777 here.  I am flying Qsuite next week and will do a full review in a couple of weeks.

If you don’t have a credit card with 0% foreign exchange fees, your best option for paying is American Express Preferred Rewards Gold which offers triple points – 3 per £1 – when you book flight tickets in a foreign currency.  This is because the transaction triggers the ‘double points for airline spend’ and the ‘double points for foreign spend’ bonuses.  Our review of Amex Gold is here.
